BASTROP, Texas (AP) — Federal prosecutors won't seek criminal charges against two Central Texas sheriff deputies involved in a stun gun shooting that left a 17-year-old student with a severe brain injury.

A U.S. Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division official sent a letter to the mother of Noe Nino de Rivera to inform her of the decision. A Bastrop County grand jury in May similarly didn't return indictments against deputies Randy McMillan and Timothy Stalcup. The federal case had been the only lingering investigation into the November 2013 incident.

The county in August settled a federal lawsuit for $775,000 with the family over medical bills.

Authorities say McMillan shot the teen with a Taser at Cedar Creek High School because he acted aggressively. They say Nino de Rivera hit his head after being shot.
