PORT MANSFIELD, Texas (AP) — The Coast Guard has rescued a family of four after their boat that ran aground during chilly, gusty conditions in South Texas.

Coast Guard officials on Tuesday said the two adults and two children were safely transported to Port Mansfield for medical attention.

The boaters used a cellphone to seek help late Monday afternoon. Strong winds had pushed their boat aground near the Mansfield Cut.

A Coast Guard helicopter lowered a rescue swimmer. The swimmer was able to walk the man, the woman and the two children to an island where the helicopter landed.

Authorities say the two children showed signs of hypothermia after a cold front dropped temperatures from the 80s to the low 50s. Winds topped 30 mph.

Further details weren't immediately available Wednesday.
