WICHITA FALLS, Texas (AP) — A North Texas city has warned online users about a fake website that does not represent municipal government and possibly targets vendors.

Wichita Falls police are investigating the bogus website fashioned to look like the city's official website.

The genuine Wichita Falls city government website, wichitafallstx.gov, includes a warning about the sham website.

The bogus site, which was still online Thursday morning, goes by "cityofwichitafallstx" and includes .org, as in organization.

Vendors who do business with Wichita Falls were among those to raise concerns about the site that appears to guide users to a "purchasing department."

Authorities say the fake site features email and phone numbers not associated with Wichita Falls, a city of more than 100,000.
