Completion of Mosaic Arena Brings Expansion of Therapeutic Riding in San Angelo

After seven years of fundraising, Mosaic TRAILS’ dream of building a covered arena has come to fruition, and with it brings about a new era in therapeutic riding in San Angelo.

More than $300,000 was raised through grants and private donations to build the arena, after which West Texas Boys Ranch, who operates Sonrisas Riding Inc., and Mosaic began discussing the possibility of the two therapeutic riding organizations joining together. This joint effort will make therapeutic riding available for people of all ages with physical and intellectual disabilities in the Concho Valley, in one location, and within a covered facility. This will allow for expansion of the program and will eliminate the need to cancel sessions due to rain, extreme heat, and strong winds.

Sonrisas Therapeutic Riding Inc. has served children since 1984, while Mosaic TRAILS began serving both children and adults in 2007. Both organizations have shared the vision of a full-time, state-of-the-art therapeutic equestrian center, and they believe that together, there is tremendous potential to serve more people with a broader range of needs. The plan is for the program, which will be operated by what is now known as Sonrisas TRAILS, to operate year-round in the Mosaic Arena under the administration of the Sonrisas Board of Directors.

Both organizations have had the support of dedicated volunteers and donors who help make their services possible. Bringing these two organizations together, and combining the valuable gifts of time and financial resources of both will lay a strong foundation for future services provided.
