Coming Soon A New Way To Go In San Antonio
SAN ANTONIO (AP) — City officials tired of repeated instances of public urination have OK'd spending $100,000 to install an "industrial-grade" bathroom kiosk in downtown San Antonio.
The city council on Thursday approved the installation of the Portland Loo, named for the Oregon city that uses them.
The San Antonio Express-News reports (http://bit.ly/1MbEaPZ ) the prefabricated unit will feature graffiti-resistant quarter-inch stainless steel, motion-activated LED lighting and an exterior hand-washing station.
The price tag doesn't include the $30,000 to $60,000 for installation.
Councilman Roberto Treviño says the "industrial-grade product" is "built like a tank."
It will be the only 24/7 bathroom in downtown San Antonio. An attendant will visit at least twice daily for cleaning.
San Antonio isn't the first to have the bathrooms; Galveston is installing five of them.
