LUFKIN, Texas (AP) — A miniature train offering rides at an East Texas park has resumed rolling after nearly two months sidelined for installation of new tracks on the mile-long route.

The Z&OO (zee-and-oh-oh) Railroad attraction reopened Tuesday in Lufkin at Ellen Trout Park, which also is home to a zoo.

Zoo director Gordon Henley said Wednesday that the rail line was shut down in early September to install sturdier tracks. The Z&OO Railroad, operated by the Lufkin Host Lions Club, features a route through the park, around the zoo and across a bridge on a lake.

A red locomotive and several open-air cars carry adults and children at $2 per ride. Proceeds have been used to support education, recreation and other projects to benefit the public.

The railroad has operated since 1970.
