HOUSTON (AP) — A Houston man accused of fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend earlier this week has been charged with capital murder in the case.

The Houston Chronicle (http://bit.ly/1PNRdy7 ) reports that the charges against 28-year-old Darrell P. Mitchell were upgraded from murder after the second victim, 24-year-old Johnel Francis, died in the hospital late Tuesday.

Mitchell told authorities he knocked on the door of his ex-girlfriend's home around 3 a.m. Tuesday. Twenty-three-year-old Lakiesha Lewis died at the scene.

Court documents say Mitchell told authorities that "his mind went blank and he shot and killed them." Lewis was the mother of Mitchell's three children, ages 5, 3 and 1.

Mitchell is being held without bond at the Harris County Jail. It wasn't immediately clear if he has a lawyer.
