BROWNSVILLE, Texas (AP) — A veteran South Texas police officer has been charged with theft and forgery in what investigators say involves an outside company.

Brownsville police Officer Ruben Castillo on Monday remained on administrative leave without pay. The 45-year-old officer was arrested last Wednesday and freed on $10,000 bond.

Brownsville police Chief Orlando Rodriguez says he anticipates more arrests but no additional officers are expected to face charges. The case does not involve police or Brownsville city staff.

Rodriguez declined to provide further details on the investigation into Castillo, who's been a Brownsville officer for 22 years.

Castillo was placed on administrative leave without pay two weeks ago. Online jail records had no additional information for him or an attorney.
