Cannabis Oil To Be Legal For Epilepsy Patients
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Republican Gov. Greg Abbott will sign a bill legalizing cannabis oil in Texas for epilepsy patients on the final day of his first legislative session.
Abbott on Monday will join more than a dozen other U.S. governors who have signed nearly identical legislation in the past year. The list includes other top conservatives such as Florida Gov. Rick Scott and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker.
Cannabis oil is extracted from marijuana plants but doesn't produce a high. Only epilepsy patients with a prescription could access the oil.
Texas lawmakers are now done until 2017. The last major bill sent to Abbott on Sunday would legalize concealed handguns on college campuses.
Last-minute concessions that allow for gun-free zones won the support to push the so-called "campus carry" bill through.
