LLANO, Texas (AP) — Officers have fatally shot a motorcycle-riding bank robbery suspect during a traffic stop in Central Texas.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says a trooper and a Llano (LAH'-no) County sheriff's deputy opened fire Wednesday afternoon, killing the armed man.

DPS says the cyclist was stopped as part of an ongoing criminal investigation into bank robberies in Louisiana and Round Rock, near Austin.

Authorities say a trooper stopped the suspect near the town of Llano, about 60 miles northwest of Austin. The suspect refused to put down his gun and then pointed the weapon toward officers — who opened fire.

No officers were hurt.

The suspect's name wasn't immediately released.
