Australian Sex Offender To Serve Time In Texas
EL PASO, Texas (AP) — A convicted sex offender from Australia living in Texas must serve 17½ years in a U.S. prison for having more than 93,000 child pornography images.
Alexandro Silva was sentenced Thursday in federal court in El Paso. The 45-year-old Silva in April pleaded guilty to receipt and distribution of child pornography.
Silva's home in El Paso was raided in August 2014 and he was arrested. Investigators say computers and other electronics yielded more than 93,000 porn images and videos.
Law enforcement records show Silva in 2009 was convicted in Australia on child porn charges and sentenced to two years in prison.
Court documents indicate Silva had a post-graduate scholarship at Australian National University, which issued a computer to him. Investigators found thousands of child porn images on that device.
