Angelo State University Enhanced Interrogation Panel

Angelo State University’s Department of Political Science and Philosophy will present a panel discussion, “Enhanced Interrogation and Its Use in the War Against Terror,” on Monday, March 30, in the Houston Harte University Center, 1910 Rosemont Drive.

The panel discussion will be from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the University Center’s C.J. Davidson Conference Center. The event is free and open to the public and will be followed by a question and answer period. Light refreshments will be served.The panel discussion will consist of 10-15 minute presentations by ASU faculty, including:

• “An Overview of Enhanced Interrogation: The Pros and Cons” by Dr. Jeff Dailey Department of Security Studies and Criminal Justice.

• “The ‘Truth’ of the Matter: Detecting Deception in Enhanced Interrogation Situations” by Dr. Kraig Schell and Dr. Drew Curtis, Department of Psychology, Sociology and Social Work.

• “The War on Terror and Presidential Power” by Dr. Deanna Watts, Department of Political Science and Philosophy.

• “Can Torture Ever be Morally Right?” by Dr. John Glassford, Department of Political Science and Philosophy.

Dr. Jack Barbour, chair of ASU’s Department of Political Science and Philosophy, organized the panel discussion.

“With what is going on in the Middle East and the Boston bombing trial,” he said, “I felt this would be an issue that our students and the larger community would be interested in, presented from an analytical perspective.”
