The annual concert will feature performances by three ASU ensembles. The Brass Quintet will perform Quintet No. 1 by Russian composer Victor Ewald. The Trumpet Ensemble will be featured in “Cityscapes,” a new composition for five trumpets by Erik Morales. The Low Brass Ensemble, comprising two trombones, a euphonium and a tuba, will perform short works by J.S. Bach and Beethoven, as well as a modern treatment of the famous tango, “La Cumparsita.”

Additionally, for the fifth year in a row, a select group of trumpet players from five area high schools will perform, under the direction of Dr. John Irish of ASU’s music faculty. The ensemble of 12 players will present “Prelude and Fugue” by Juilliard faculty member Eric Ewazen, followed by a specially arranged medley of prominent trumpet themes from film scores by John Williams, including “Star Wars,” “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” “Indiana Jones” and “Superman.”
