COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Several thousand people have gathered at Texas A&M University to remember victims of the 1999 bonfire collapse.

Ceremonies were held before dawn Wednesday in College Station at the memorial for the 12 Aggies killed and 27 hurt in the accident.

Students and other volunteers were building a 60-foot tower with thousands of logs when the pile fell on Nov. 18, 1999, on the eve of the Texas football game.

Flowers, songs and prayers were part of Wednesday's remembrance on the 16th anniversary of the tragedy.
