Abortion Clinic Open Again

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — An El Paso clinic closed by Texas' tough abortion law is the state's first to reopen since the U.S. Supreme Court temporarily blocked some key restrictions in June.

The reopening of the Reproductive Services clinic Tuesday brings the number of Texas abortion clinics to 20. That's down from 41 in 2012.

But the clinic could close again soon because a June 29 order from the Supreme Court only temporarily suspended enforcement of important parts of Texas' 2013 abortion law.

Nova Health Systems operates Reproductive Services. Nova Health President Marilyn Eldridge says she's excited but discouraged because the clinic "could be closed down at any time."

The Supreme Court's ruling will hold at least until it decides whether to hear an appeal of a lower court ruling.
