MIDLAND, Texas (AP) — Nearly two dozen people have been arrested in a crackdown on an alleged drug and guns ring in West Texas.

Federal prosecutors say the arrests targeted suspects in the Midland and Odessa areas in two separate investigations.

Authorities say 23 people were arrested Thursday. Five other defendants were already in custody. Seven suspects remain at large.

The charges include conspiracy to possess or possession with intent to distribute cocaine or methamphetamine. Some suspects face charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The suspects are from Midland, Odessa, Stanton, Denver City, Big Spring, Andrews and Riverside, California.
