2 New Buildings For 90 Year Old Museum

HOUSTON (AP) — The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston is unveiling a $450 million project that will include two new buildings designed to complement the existing structures.  

Board chairman Richard Kinder tells the Houston Chronicle (http://bit.ly/1ALR1nV ) that the redevelopment project is the most exciting in the museum's 90-year history. He says it's expected to be complete by 2019.

The most prominent new structure will be a 164,000-square-foot building on what's now the museum's parking lot. The three-story structure is shaped like a jigsaw-puzzle piece with a canopy roof full of concave curves. It will also feature glass walls on the ground floor. There will be a sheath of energy-saving translucent glass tubes, lit from behind, around the rest of the exterior, which is concrete.
