HOUSTON (AP) — A U.S. Air Force refueling jet returning to California has made a safe emergency landing in Houston after smoke was reported in the cockpit.

Military spokeswoman Capt. Mallory Thornton said Friday that the four-person crew evacuated the KC-10 at George Bush Intercontinental Airport.

Thornton says nobody was hurt in Thursday afternoon's incident involving a plane from Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, California.

The Houston Fire Department responded to the emergency. Department officials had no immediate reports of a fire on board.

Thornton says Air Force authorities are trying to determine what led to smoke in the cockpit.

She had no immediate details Friday on where the flight originated or the status of the plane and crew.
