BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) — A 19-year-old Beaumont man has been charged with capital murder in the fatal shooting of a convenience store clerk during an attempted holdup.

Chandler Kyle Ventress was arraigned Wednesday with bond set at $2 million.

Ventress surrendered Tuesday night to Beaumont police. Another suspect remains at large.

Investigators say 52-year-old Mettha Chandra Kuruppu of Beaumont was shot to death April 29. Store security video shows two armed men entering the business and trying to rob the place.

Jail records do not list an attorney for Ventress to comment on the case.
